Where we're going
The work I'll keep championing for Uxbridge as your Durham Regional Councillor.
Maximizing Durham Regional investment in Uxbridge
My commitment for the next four years includes building on the strong track record of Regional investment secured for Uxbridge:
- • Advance significant infrastructure investment including roundabouts in Coppin’s Corners, 6th & Toronto St and rebuilding the Goodwood intersection where Durham 21 and 47 converge.
- • Ensure the previously approved seven additional DRPS officers in North Durham focus on addressing aggressive driving and increased visibility through foot and bike patrols.
- • Restore the Durham Region Transit bus route to the west side of the urban area and implement the Brock Rd route to connect to Pickering. Expand on-demand service hours to better serve rural transit users.
- • Collaborate with Metrolinx to expand transit services to York Region.
- • Strategize with North House to ensure the Regional funding addresses the ‘hidden homeless’ issue in Uxbridge Township.
- • Establish programs with Durham Public Health to ensure Uxbridge residents can access programs such as dental care, infant and child development consultants and nurse practitioners.
Protecting what makes Uxbridge special
The Official Plan review “Envisioning Our Uxbridge” is the most comprehensive planning effort in township history. The next four years are about making sure that review delivers a plan Uxbridge residents will be proud of:
Finishing what we started
- • Open Uxbridge Heights Long-Term Care and complete the Uxbridge Hospital Construction.
- • Complete the transition of operations to the new Uxbridge Scugog animal shelter.
Looking ahead
- • Protecting the Oak Ridges Moraine and supporting Provincial efforts related to the Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park.
- • Supporting our farmers and agricultural community through assertive lobbying with upper-tier governments.
- • Seek opportunities for Regional engagement in the lower Brock revitalization such as allowing patios on Brock St.
- • Holding the line on managed growth — keeping the <1% rate that protects our small-town character.
A community that cares for its seniors and young families
Our advocacy for a new long-term care home dates back 14 years! The new 192-bed long-term care home on the hospital campus is under construction. Scheduled for completion in the next term of council, continued passion is required to support the inclusion of Uxbridge oriented details and assist with the move of our most vulnerable residents.
Additional programming is being developed to keep Uxbridge residents 55+ active. Lobbying for recurring Provincial funding to establish and maintain Seniors Active Living Centres will be critical.
Finally, affordable housing options for downsizing not only serves aging residents but also creates opportunities for younger families. Leveraging Regional and Provincial relationships will be a key element of continuing the momentum.
